Imagine carefully pushing aside dense vines and stepping into a hidden clearing in the middle of the rainforest—except this jungle is no bigger than a book. In our 10-liter Nano Cube, a single stone column overgrown with plants sits enthroned like the jagged archway of an ancient temple complex. Miniature Anubias cling to its sides, while delicate roots dangle down into the crystal-clear water.

Despite its tiny size, the tank has a distinct sense of depth: a strip of open sand at the front opens up the view, and the column forms the striking centerpiece while concealing all the technical equipment. This "Nano Jungle" combines the clear structure of an Iwagumi layout with the lush, wild effect of epiphytes – ideal for those who want a small space but a large jungle atmosphere.

Nano Jungle

A side view reveals the massive "Jungle Column": roots and stones grow together to form a single sculpture, completely enveloped in deep green leaves. Behind it, the filter cleverly disappears—only the lush foliage remains visible. Fine sand shimmers in the foreground, making the lush green appear even more vibrant and lending the miniature rainforest additional depth.

Plan for planting

Epiphytes that do not need substrate and remain compact:

1. Anubias nana 'Bonsai'

2. Bucephalandra 'Mini Red'

3. Anubias nana

4. Aegagropila linnaei(moss ball)

The different leaf sizes, colors, and structures create a natural jungle look, while the plants remain robust and easy to care for – ideal for a 10-liter nano.

Small but nice

Photographed from above, the image demonstrates how depth can be created even in the smallest format: Dark green Anubias leaves create dense shadows, while the reddish nuances of Bucephalandra add accents. Combined with the spherical Aegagropila, a multi-layered mini-biotope is created, reminiscent of an enchanted jungle.

The care

Small pools react more quickly to changes, so consistency is key.
Water change:Add at least 50% fresh, temperate water every week.
Nutrients:From week two onwards, use our All-in-One regularly – but only ¼ of the recommended dosage to avoid over-fertilization.
CO₂:A Carbo Bio Style 120 gently supplies the plants with CO₂; make sure the diffuser is not hanging directly below the surface airflow.
Light:Start with 8 hours of lighting (+ short lunch break), increase in 15-minute increments up to a maximum of 10 hours.
Care:Remove dead leaves promptly and rotate the moss ball with every water change to keep it round. The compact Anubias and Bucephalandra are forgiving of minor care mistakes, but will grow more compactly if you occasionally remove older leaves.

You can find more tips in our beginner's guide (link follows). This will keep your "Nano Jungle" healthy and crystal clear for a long time!
