Imagine entering a tropical jungle: lush greenery as far as the eye can see, interspersed with rippling streams teeming with colorful fish. We want to bring that very same vacation feeling into your living room with our "Easy Tropical"! Tall, lush plants, distinctive roots, and warm stone tones create the impression of a natural wilderness that is both harmonious and inviting. The best part? It's uncomplicated and reproducible, so even beginners can enjoy this tropical look.

The inspiration comes from endless, lush riverbanks and the impressive riparian forests found in hot climates. Our goal: to create a simple yet exciting layout—a kind of "ordered chaos" in which plants, sand, and stones are arranged seemingly randomly, but in reality complement each other perfectly. So bring a piece of vacation home and let yourself be enchanted by the "Easy Tropical"!

Natural chaos down to the last detail

In the first image, taken from the top right, the fascinating interplay of brown and green tones immediately catches the eye. The loose arrangements of roots and stones, surrounded by tall plants and small ground covers, convey a sense of wild jungle. This seemingly chaotic setup, however, blends into a natural whole that continually draws the viewer's eye to new details. It is precisely this "natural chaos" that is the heart of our "Easy Tropical": varied, vibrant, yet harmonious.

Plan for planting

A colorful mix of large and small leaves as well as long-stemmed plants creates an impressive tropical look:

1. Eleocharis pusilla

2. Anubias barteri var. Nana

3. Anubias barteri var. nana 'Bonsai'

3. Anubias barteri var. nana 'Golden'

4. Echinodorus grisebachii 'Bleherae'

5. Echinodorus 'Small Bear'

6. Ludwigia repens

7. Ceratopteris thalictroides

8. Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Brown'

This variety of leaf sizes and growth forms underlines the “natural chaos”, while the different color tones create a lively overall picture.

As if cut from nature

In the second picture the focus is on the large leaves ofEchinodorus-plants and the delicate leaves of theCeratopteris thalictroidesThis is a particularly impressive demonstration of how large and small creatures coexist and showcase each other. Roots wind between the stones, creating hiding places for the animal inhabitants. Despite its apparent wildness, the scene exudes tranquility and naturalness—precisely what defines a tropical aquarium.

How To Care

Caring for the "Easy Tropical" is classic and straightforward – ideal for beginners. For the first four to five weeks, we recommend weekly water changes of around 50%. After that, you can reduce the water change intervals to 20–30%. Start with a light duration of about eight hours per day, supplemented by a short break in the middle, and gradually increase the time to a maximum of ten hours. Fertilization should also be approached in moderation: Starting in the second week, you can start with half the manufacturer's recommendation and gradually adjust it.

Particular attention should be paid to regularly cleaning the sandy foreground. If it gets too dirty, you can remove the sand and replace it with fresh sand to keep the look tropical and inviting. Also, make sure to trim back the fast-growing stem plants in the background as needed to prevent them from overgrowing the entire layout. As always, you can find more tips and details for a successful start in our beginner's guide.
